Community Roots

Rose Diamond has been a proud member of the Launceston community since the 1980s. Originally from Newcastle, NSW, she first discovered Launceston while visiting Tasmania with her family, and quickly formed a lasting connection with the city and its people. Decades later, that connection remains at the heart of her commitment to serving the community she now calls home.

Professional Experience

Rose's professional and personal journey has been shaped by a deep dedication to public service. With a background as a community lawyer, advocate, and policy adviser in Tasmanian Parliament, Rose has worked diligently to help people across various areas of law in relation to mental health, guardianship and administration, family, defence and veterans, aged care and elder abuse issues. She is driven by a clear vision for a transparent, approachable, and professional Council, and she is committed to bringing her legal experience, skills and commitment to help build a stronger, smarter, and safer Launceston for everyone. One of her biggest achievements is equipping and empowering others towards positive change.

Listening and Mediation Skills

Rose currently works in the mediation field and has a strong understanding of the every day challenges many people face and the importance of listening, fairness, and engagement. Rose is also a passionate advocate for social justice and empowering the most disadvantaged to self advocate. She believes that bringing people together through compassion, connection and shared purpose is key to a thriving community.

Hobbies

Rose's love of the performing arts has stretched across London, Rome and Sydney. She values the power of the creative arts to entertain and bond our community through shared experiences across all walks of life. Rose also has a lifelong love of animals, nature, good food, good wine and good company, and appreciates the wide variety of fresh, high quality Tassie produce and rural living that is available on Launceston's doorstep.

A Future-Focused Mayor & Councillor

As a prospective candidate for Mayor and Councillor, Rose is committed to ensuring every voice is heard. She brings a fresh, thoughtful perspective focused on responsible fiscal policy and sustainable growth, community wellbeing, and economic resilience. She has the skills and abilities to negotiate and collaborate with all tiers of government, and is passionate about developing practical solutions to address the cost of living and housing challenges facing the Launceston community today. Rose Diamond is ready to serve with integrity, experience, and a genuine commitment to the future of Launceston.

My Priorities

Reducing Traffic Congestion

I support practical, long-term solutions to ease traffic congestion in the Launceston CBD. This includes advocating for a second Kanamaluka/Tamar River bridge to improve connectivity between the West and East Tamar Highways, helping traffic flow more efficiently and supporting future growth.

Cost-of-Living Relief

I recognise the financial pressures facing households at the moment with the rising cost of living crisis, and will stand firm against any proposed rate increases for the next two years to help alleviate some of the finanical strain that residents are experiencing.

Large-Scale Projects & Community Engagement

Major developments must benefit and reflect the needs and values of the local community. I am committed to meaningful consultation with residents and key stakeholders to ensure projects earn a genuine social licence to operate. Decision-making in relation to large developments should always apply the precautionary principle, particularly for projects that may impact limited resources such as water and energy.

Safer, Smarter Transport

Advocating for fair, practical rules for electric e-bikes and e-scooters—backed by strong education programs—so everyone can travel safely, affordably, and with confidence.

Healthier, Greener Public Spaces

I am committed to more environmentally friendly, greener, and welcoming public spaces. This includes making public spaces more inviting and ensuring that they are designed to reflect the heritage character of the city. I also support reducing the reliance on toxic chemicals that are currently routinely used to control weeds in public spaces, and investing in proven alternatives such as steam-based treatments to maintain public parks, sporting fields, footpaths, and roads.

Jogging With Strollers
Fairer and Consistent  Development Planning Rules

I support fair and balanced planning reforms that encourage investment while improving housing affordability. This includes more flexible policies for both short and long-term tiny homes, as well as caravan living options on vacant land, to help diversify affordable housing options

Compassionate Action on Homelessness

Working alongside all tiers of government and community organisations to address homelessness with dignity—pushing for safe, clean public facilities and meaningful local support solutions.

Backing Local Business

Supporting our local economy by expanding free parking days and areas, and  increasing access to affordable long-term parking for workers, customers, and small business owners.

Stronger Communities Through Active Parks

Expanding active park spaces with high-quality fitness equipment for all ages, alongside making Launceston Leisure and Aquatic Centre memberships more flexible and affordable for the whole community.
